David Weinberger a man who thinks that everything is miscellaneous hasn't taken into account that sometimes don't just happen by chance, but they happen because of the outcomes and choices people have made in life. Now, to make an argument for Weinberger we will say yes, things do happen randomly every day, for instance, weather is random, the way the ocean moves in and out is random, and the way snow stacks itself up is also random. In those instances, we can conclude that nature, more than likely is random. As a counter argument however, we can state that it is not random, those instances all occurred because of previous chain of events that brought them on.
First, lets look at the weather argument, is weather really random? The answer is, yes... and no. It's random because we don't know what to expect day to day, or even hour to hour. However, it's not random because the previous day/month/year's weather all effects the weather of tomorrow. For instance, if we've had a long hot summer, where the earth was dry and crops didn't grow as well. That would mean that when it does rain, it wouldn't be as hard and severe, because an abundance of precipitation didn't evaporate into clouds, thus, there would be less rain to fall down.
Now, let's look at a period in time when there were previous weeks of heavy rain, followed by 10 or so days of heat. In this instance, the previous weeks rain would evaporate on the hot days, causing massive clouds to form, causing huge amounts of rain to fall next time it rains. So we can conclude from those facts, that it wasn't at all random or the cause of miscellaneous actions. It all happend because of pre-conditions.
Just like if it rains alot, or if it the weather changes, we as humans, also can affect our day to future outcomes based on what we do. If you take a person who is ambitious, finishes high-school through sheer study and hard work, attends a college/university, and then gets a high paying job. You would say this person is the outcome of all the choices you've made. Now, lets take a man or woman who is lazy, doesn't attend school, stays at home lounging and watching TV, what will their outcome be? Will they be successful and have a high paying job? Will they have the best things in life coming to them? Will they travel the world and eat the finest meals? The answers are no, they will be a victim of their own laziness.
In life we pick and choose the paths we want to take, we have no one to blame for ourselves for the results we get. It's time everyone stop complaining about the "cards they were dealt" and start working harder than ever before to achieve the American Dream, or the dream available to them in the country they live in!
